REFORM: Bankrupting America
Why? THE TAKEOVER
The Progressives spend beyond our means, massive spending to "save us" but it doesn't make sense, or does it? BANKRUPTCY, or the fear of it will create another economic crisis leading to the next step in the Progressives' plan, a takeover of ENERGY that starts with nationalizing the oil companies. Why? That's where the big money is and where the fatal blow is struck to Capaitalism. "The Venezualen Domino Effect".
The realization felt like a blow to the gut. I KNEW! Farfetched Conspiracy Theory? Ask yourself: What collateral would YOU fall back on faced with national bankruptcy? Are they worried about the massive national debt they're racking up? They should be but they aren't. Why?
Obama promised the Chinese we'd pay them. Now can you read his mind? In your "mind's eye", imagine yourself in Obama's shoes on a visit to a very powerful nation like China, an important trading partner that also happens to be Communist, led by people who are probably smarter than you are. You're in a "hole" they're probably helping you dig. What's your collateral? "We Will Fundamentally Change America"? Lew
To G: I think there's hope for you yet. I jarred something loose that sounded American to me. The only thing I had taken offense to was "drivel", so typical as a way to demean and so lacking in substantive thought. This latest response showed that you at least had a mental capacity higher than a chimp.
There are two inseparable things I hate above all others: Being Victimized and Dictators. By any name, those are my "evils". Two faces of the same cornerstone.
On the back faces are Lies and Minipulation (propaganda). The bottom face is Theft. Collusion is the top face.
I don't give a damn about party, does the candidate meet the "cornerstone test"? To hold them accountable requires some self-examination. To do that we have to start, not with your generation, but with mine. No need to go further back than to the 60's to find out where we turned the corner, lowered our standards and set the first cornerstone in place with the Hippies leading the way.
We lied to justify individual behaviour we knew was wrong, trying to absolve ourselves of guilt. We sublimated while we buried our standards. The "headstone" of self-deceit was engraved with high sounding principles. We were going to "save the planet" while we puffed away, drugged away, drank away and screwed away our heritage. Your generation is its beneficiary. You are seeing the result of 20 - 40 years of neglect and self-delusion by my generation. We sowed the seeds, dug the hole, then elected what are most of today's entrenched politicians, Republican or Democrat.
One more confession is needed to explain the distortion of our values. As a parent, I (and many others) taught my children they were to become "better than me", reversing our roles. Better to have been a model to measure themselves against. One they respected. One to be like instead of "not to be like".
Is it any wonder you are disillusioned? Lethargic? That you scoff ar our now feeble attempts to right our wrongs? We left you with a potful of crap and didn't flush the toilet.
Why is Reagan revered by us? He was our "Great Flusher" (Remember Nancy R's "Just say, 'No'"?). Don't blame him for whatever he may have lacked. He was, after all, only human faced with a superhuman task. No one with any sense expected miracles. We did hope our Nation had set a better, cleaner course. Don't blame Reagan for what followed. Our politicians were well entrenched by then, still reflecting the moral codes we ourselves were responsible for having "approved" and in which they'd participated and for which we gave them license with every re-election including the last.
I want to succeed in one thing before I die: That I may hae helped set a different cornerstone in place and laid to rest with a headstone inscribed with 3 words: "Freedom Still Rings". Lew
From: G. You are right. Myself and my generation are the largest problem. Why work to create something with our talents and good fortune when we can borrow other folks money and make money from nothing. If the country can borrow a few trillion dollars and have an economic boom(80's) why can't we do the same. I won't be paying for it, someone else's kids will.
It doesn't matter how much the war Afghanistan/Iraq costs, just kill the evil guys and let me watch the ball game. My SUV does not burn THAT much gas. So what if we use up all the resources & destroy the climate, I'll be long dead before that happens. In a related matter, an argument can be made that US foreign policy (destroy the godless communists) is directly responsible for the present day terrorists. It doesn't even require a conspiracy theory, just a CIA file called Al Qaeda.
I'm hopeful the humans inhabiting the planet can change things. I'm skeptical that the current generation of Americans have the wherewithal. Too much effort and sacrifice will be required for those of us raised on TV and McDonalds. It is safe to assume that my preferred solution is in direct conflict with your preferred solution. We may both be wrong, but many things have to change before the planet and this country start down a sustainable path.
My generation, and the ones behind us, have had so much, with so little effort that we could not execute a solution if one was given to us. You are right about the baseball bat, but it will take a societal whack to redirect us. I have traveled, seen. Outside this country life is based on staying alive another day. Americans don't understand what that is like, easy to read about, impossible to imagine.
Good luck surviving the 'evil' Obama administration, it will all be clearer when he brings in his cousin Osama to be national security advisor, right after he sells the statue of liberty to the Chinese. BTW: The only thing I took offense to was your suggestion that I should run for congress, really, that was a low blow. "G"
MY RESPONSE TO G: Seems to me there's one of two choices: That "they" are just too stupid to understand what "they" are doing. The other is that now there's much more organization to it, starting with Obama's overly huge campaign contributions.
It's so unfortunate you missed out on the America we grew up in, were poor in, worked hard in and loved for all its inequalities and imperfections. You see, it's the people. The wonderful, magical, full-hearted people who inhabit our land of opportunity that I've known, the hope in its future I care about so that others might experince the life I've known. They say "Attitude IS Everything". Your's could use a baseball bat reinforced by some foreign travel though I doubt it would do any good.
If our country is in trouble, and I believe it is, look to your present thinking because THAT'S where it all started, not with Reagan, but with youthful ignorance that became a way of life.
I stand guilty of trusting our politicians in my youthful ignorance. That I now know better and can freely say so is a testment to why our Constitution is worth fighting for.
Grasping at a straw, but you might consider running for office (only in America, eh?). A stint in DC as a Congressman might just complete your education. Funny as it seems, I'd vote for you because of the effect it would have on your viewpoint. Lew
A Response to Lew: The bankrupting of America started under Reagan, and neither the Blues or the Reds have tried to stop it. The current administration is more of the same. If it makes you feel better to feel that it is some sort of conspiracy (love bringing up the evil communist hoard, classic) then keep sending this drivel.
Its too late to stop the pending avalanche, just relax and enjoy the ride, comrade. Communism would be a godsend, I do not believe we will be that lucky. "G"

Who's Really Running the Show? I have a nagging intuition that something is not quite right about Barack Obama. Is he actually a functioning President of the United States [POTUS]? There's no doubt he fills the position but is he in command? He seems lost at times, reacting to ideas about which he doesn't have a clue. He left the writing of this health care bill to Nancy Pelosi's House of Representatives and she, in turn, has farmed the writing out to several fairly radical community action groups.
He seems to be acting as a pawn of much more clever world leaders. The more I watch, the more I see a person who appears to be the "face" of some other entity or group, like a "front man", yet there's no one visible to we the people, or the media, we see pulling the strings (maybe Andy Stearn?). They are not in elected positions. They're better hidden than that.
We know that Qbama has been, and remains, surrounded by life-long radicals, professed communists and anti-capitalists, some of whom he has appointed as czars. Thirty six czars, to date. Is Obama picking them or are they running the show? This may sound crazy, but the more he says, the more his words seem empty of content. Platitudes about America and the American people which don't ring true. Words mouthed but not believed.
Maybe he is clever, moving the ship to the left while mouthing centrist words. I used to think he was a slick con-man. Now I think he's more plastic than real, a "Great and Powerful Oz" being manipulated behind the curtain. While Obama may not have strong convictions, those behind the curtain do and they are moving this country down a dangerous path. Why Obama? Why not one of the people from behind the curtain as President? Those other people have backgrounds that are so radical they would never have made it past the first few days of a campaign. Additionally, they are life-long community organizers and they know what kind of face can be effective if you wish to radically change the nation.
You need a figurehead who speaks well, co-opts the language of the right, a uniter, articulate and can cover both sides of an issue. This is who you'd pick as your front man so that while you move things drastically left, the majority of Americans won't believe that was the intent.
Yes, Obama was a community organizer. Was he this clever? He wasn't a community organizer all that long. Did he do anything truly radical? But there are people in his administration who have been community organizers and radical left wing activists for 20-30 years with deeply ingrained commitments to actively changing the system.
Obama has been trained and used as a puppet. His successes have come too easily as if orchestrated, pre-planned. How does it happen that person with zero governmental administrative experience is running the entire government of the United States? Who is writing all the legislation? Who is really in control?
Re: THE WALL STREET JOURNAL on the Unconstitutional Health Care Bill.
For those who don't understand the importance of Supreme Court appointments, the Wall Street Journal article underscores why our current Congress' legislative actions have been opposed by those who can see "the forest for the trees".
Our Constitution sets us apart from European and Asian countries. We who value freedom are not lacking in compassion or an understanding of the true meaning of "reform". This Congress has used our goodness against us.
Any who voted for unconstitutional legislation, in committee or on the floor, are not qualified to hold office and should be impeached, their cushy perks taken away along with retirement benefits. Re-elect them at the peril of our Nation's future.
The HCRB will go to the Supreme Court. Will Civil Rights Advocates or the ACLU be supporting the civil rights or liberties they purport to protect? My concern is that a Supreme Court decision, however favorable, will take focus away from those who should, must, be removed from Congress. It's time the American people put selfish, partisan politics aside, no matter how much pork a Senator or Representative can deliver to their State. Lew
